Abraham lied about wife Sarah on at least two separate instances, and yet we never read God rebuking him or condemning him for those actions. Now it mustn’t confuse or surprise us that God didn’t because it is one of the blessings of being made righteous by faith.
Romans 4:7-8 says “Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man, unto whom God counts righteousness without works, saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.”
The blessing of the righteous is not that they will never sin. It’s a fact that every believer is capable of sinning even though he or she is made righteous in their spirits. But the truth is that the soul and the body aren’t fully renewed yet. Even though they are saved it is no surprise if they make a mistake somewhere.
But the blessing of the righteous is in this – when they sin or make a mistake it is never imputed to them or put into their account to bring them into judgment. That’s we read therefore there is now no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:1). Now is there a chance that they might err? Yes. But does that mean that God will condemn them or punish them? No. It is because they are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and their sins are no longer imputed to them. Amen?
God bless you!
